Meet Mary
Hi, I’m Mary Makowski.
I’m passionate about helping teens and adults learn to step away from shame and learn to love themselves. I especially love working with the Neuro-Divergent population, as I am also a fellow ADHD-er. Working with all ages I find it can be very valuable to bring in my clients partners and family members to assist the journey of healthy living. I feel especially privileged to help clients advocate for what they need from the world, and find ways to care for themselves even in the face of adversity. I also offer parent consultation for those parents who are entering into the world of raising a kiddo whose needs might be different than their own. At my core, I believe in creating a space without judgement, so that we can mindfully build up your helpful strategies (and find those not so helpful patterns to help you step away from self-sabotage).
I am a Registered Psychologist with a Masters of Education in School and Applied Child Psychology from the University of Calgary. I also have a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree in Psychology from the University of Victoria. Before becoming a Psychologist, I spent many years as a Support Worker and Custody Supervisor in British Columbia.
When I am not at work, you will definitely find me competing in something (or making it a competition with myself). I am very passionate about volleyball, bouldering, crafting, and video games. A fun fact about me is that I am the youngest of six siblings, so I tend to feel at piece in a loud environment.

Sansa is my incredibly hyper American Cocker Spaniel who brings so much joy to my life. She requires constant ball throws since she is truly obsessed with playing fetch. and she is always looking for a snuggle. If you met her, you would fall in love with her forever-puppy energy.
Pets can be amazing support animals that do wonders for our mental health. They love us unconditionally, they help us get out of our ruts, and they are incredibly attuned to our moods and emotional needs. While our office location is unfortunately not pet friendly, I would love to hear about your pets (and see pictures), and to explore strategies of how to involve them in your mental health journey.
In the summertime, we can potentially look at scheduling an outdoor walking session that involves your pets (with lots of discussions around benefits, risks and how confidentiality might be impacted).
